Vladimirets Surname List

History

The following is a list of surnames associated with Vladimirets gathered from various sources.  Not all these families are related, although most probably are in some way or another. This is by no means a complete list -- with less than 2,500 Jews in Vladimirets (1,377 in the 1939 census), it is likely that there were over 250 Jewish surnames. When I couldn't figure out what the name was, I put down the phonetic sounds from the original Hebrew/Yiddish/Polish/Russian.  Please let me know if I've mangled something, and I'll be happy to fix it.

Variations of spelling are included here because records for the same person may include multiple variations of the name, especially after emigration. Additionally, putting known variants together helps connect the families.

Also see the Family Tree database for a listing of surnames and how many individuals we have in the database with that surname.   Individuals are listed with the spelling most often used, so the name or spelling may change across generations or even across time by an individual.

I've also been working on figuring out occupations.  There wasn't another logical place to put this information, so I've added it to this page.  If an occupation is listed, it means that one or more of that family is noted somewhere as having that occupation.  Miscellaneous notes are at the bottom -- as they get figured out, they will move to the chart.
